Welcome to the Escondido Art Association

The Escondido Art Association is dedicated to promoting fine arts in our community. Through our gallery on Grand Avenue we provide an outlet for our members and other local artists to display their work. We also host demonstrations by local and nationally known artists at our monthly meetings, providing a place for members to learn new techniques and socialize with fellow artists.

The EAA is active in the community of Escondido: hosting shows benefiting local causes, giving scholarships to local high school students, and even showing member artwork in downtown businesses. Anyone with an interest in the visual arts or the desire to support the EAA is welcome as a member!

Our gallery, The Artists Gallery, on Grand Avenue in Escondido, is open in the evening during the monthly Second Saturday Artwalk. We focus on representational art in all media. Admission is free and we offer a hosted wine bar and hors d'oeuvres. Come see the art and meet the artists!

ART ROTATIONS

The quarterly EAA Art Rotations are coming up again in June. This is the opportunity for EAA members to display their work, for sale, inside various businesses in or near Escondido. Art is "rotated" in the months of March, June, September and December, on the second Thursday and Friday of the month. To enter framed artworks , the artist need only arrive at the venue at the designated time, fill out the entry form for each work, and assist in taking down the prior display and in hanging of the new art. For more details, please contact Art Rotation Chair Dick Weddleton at 760-796-4004.

About the Artist:

Edwin van Doorn

A real renaissance man, Edwin is a Dutch Mechanical Engineer who has been drawing his whole life and airbrushing for 20 years. Initially struck by decorative techniques on cars and motorcycles, he became fascinated with the abilities of the airbrush. The technical nature of the tool added to that fascination as did the wide variety of mediums and surfaces the airbrush can be used with. While he is comfortable with many techniques such as masking, erasing and the use of brushes, pencils and markers, he loves working freehand more than anything as this gives him the most artistic freedom.

Edwin took classes from renowned Belgian airbrush artist David De Graef for more than six years. Besides studying airbrush techniques, Edwin studied general drawing techniques and anatomy. During his time living in the Netherlands he participated in numerous international shows in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. He performed live demonstrations in small groups and on stage in front of large crowds. After his move to California, he found the EAA and a renewed enthusiasm for his art work. Edwin has served on the EAA board and currently maintains the EAA website.
